Connecting Tempe: seamless transit, engaged community, enhanced accessibility

Valley Metro Tempe Streetcar

Logan Simpson served as the lead urban designer and landscape architect for a high-profile alternative transportation project involving a 14-stop, three-mile streetcar route. The project, developed to meet federal funding requirements, includes stop and platform design, landscape and irrigation planning, and site planning for transit facilities. The design integrates urban guidelines from Valley Metro and the City of Tempe to align with the historic downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. Key project goals included ADA compliance, barrier-free access, shade, seating, lighting at waiting areas, and public art at stops. The $186 million project was funded by Proposition 400, and local and federal grants. Logan Simpson also coordinated architecture and signage design. The project involved a rigorous multi-layered quality assurance process, including internal and external reviews to ensure accuracy in the construction documents.
