Connecting Tempe: seamless transit, engaged community, enhanced accessibility

Valley Metro Tempe Streetcar

Logan Simpson assisted in developing a streetcar system for downtown Tempe, Arizona enhancing accessibility to the downtown area and key institutions like Arizona State University. Each streetcar station was thematically designed to blend with the urban fabric, represent the city’s history, and include elements honoring Native American heritage. Due to its path through densely developed urban areas, stakeholder engagement was crucial. A phasing plan minimized impacts on local businesses, students, and families. Logan Simpson, as the urban designer and landscape architect, handled station TOD design, urban planning, and the application of urban design guidelines.  This ensured the streetcar seamlessly integrated into the historic downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. The project adhered strictly to ADA, PROWAG, and CPTED standards.
