Updating regulations to implement the new land use plan
Park County Development Standards Update
In April 2024, Logan Simpson kicked off the Park County Development Standards and Regulations (DSR). The two-year process modernizes development standards through diagnosis, collaborative drafting, and extensive public outreach. The update includes assessment of existing regulations to identify gaps and establish standards promoting responsible development, environmental stewardship, and rural character preservation. A detailed review of zoning district profiles and the zoning map ensures consistency with the Future Land Use Map for long-term planning.
The process is structured in multiple phases and rounds of amendments. The first round addresses immediate issues and aligns regulations with state and federal statutes. Subsequent amendments are drafted in manageable sections alongside the Zoning Map Assessment, allowing focused review by County staff, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Board of County Commissioners. A cornerstone of the process is rural community engagement. Through a variety of public forums in the County’s 12 planning areas, residents provide input on agricultural preservation, infrastructure considerations, and rural living challenges, ensuring final regulations reflect Park County’s vision for sustainable growth.
