Navajo Nation transportation improvements

Navajo DOT Navajo Route 15 Greasewood to Burnside Junction

Logan Simpson is currently providing multiple services to the Navajo Division of Transportation (DOT), along with Dibble Engineering, to improve safety transportation needs along 21.41 miles of Navajo Route 15 (N15) on the Navajo Nation. This three-phase construction project will improve existing road conditions, access, and safety along N15 for current and future traffic needs.
Services included biological surveys for endangered species, prepared a biological evaluation, and recommended mitigation measures for migratory birds, protected raptors, and invasive species. Other services were completed for development of a historic properties treatment plan, in consultation with the Navajo Nation Heritage and Historic Preservation Department.
Logan Simpson also performed Phase I data testing at nine archaeological sites to determine if significant intact buried archaeological deposits were present. Five of these sites required Phase II data recovery because buried features, e.g., houses, ramadas, and storage pits, were identified below the modern ground surface. The Phase II data recovery is scheduled for completion in 2026.

Ongoing services include assisting the Navajo DOT with consultation needs, public outreach, project scoping, and updating the Categorical Exclusion for the project to obtain a Finding of No Significant Impacts (FONSI).
