Logan Simpson, a growing multidisciplinary environmental, cultural, design, and planning firm, with unique and exciting projects, currently seeks a Permitting Specialist for our downtown Tempe Arizona office.

Duties and responsibilities include performing field investigations and preparing studies and documents related to all aspects of Sections 401, 402, and 404 of the Clean Water Act.


  • Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in Biology, Planning, Anthropology, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Environmental Studies or closely related field
  • At least three years of consulting or agency experience or equivalent combination
  • Experience preparing Jurisdictional Delineation mapping of waters of the US and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans are preferred
  • Experience preparing Section 404 Permit applications
  • Clean Water Act or Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) training is a plus
  • Assists in preparing monitoring plans, as necessary
  • Capability to travel to project areas throughout Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico


  • Demonstrates strong technical written and verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrates strong orienteering skills (such as map, GPS, and compass).
  • Demonstrates strong use and knowledge of the following: Clean Water Act, US Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 Program, and the Arizona and National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems.
  • Demonstrates the core values of the firm in execution of duties (i.e. is a consistent role model).
  • Proficiency in GIS software applications preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, and be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly to others.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines, working overtime if necessary.
  • Must be able to occasionally work outside in extreme temperatures on steep, rocky, and/or uneven terrain.
  • In order to drive for firm business, individuals must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and possess personal auto insurance.
