Ogden is in the process of a major comprehensive update of the existing signs, subdivisions, landmarks, and zoning ordinances, combining them into one Unified Development Code. The project includes streamlining language, crafting graphics, incorporating tables, and restructuring the code’s organization to encourage development that aligns with community input collected through both the Zone Ogden process and the General Plan Update. The project team hosted 8 unique engagement events, including focus groups and developer round table discussions on specific topics. Online engagement through the project website, and close collaboration with the city’s planning commission and elected officials were key to the overall success of the project. The new Unified Development Code uses graphics and modern terminology to ensure that developers, staff, and the general public can easily understand where, how, and why regulations apply to development.
