Logan Simpson supported the Bureau of Land Management in completing an Inventory, Assessment, and Monitoring (IAM) report for the Old Spanish National Historic Trail in Utah’s Upper Sevier Basin. The study evaluated approximately 15 miles of the congressionally designated trail route on BLM lands between Circleville and the Lower Bear Valley area. The project documented the trail’s historic, scenic, recreational, and natural landscape elements to establish baseline conditions for long-term management. Using the National Trails System IAM methodology, the team conducted field inventories, viewshed and scenic quality analyses, and resource assessments to better understand the trail corridor and surrounding landscape. The report also developed a monitoring framework to track changes over time and guide management decisions that protect the trail’s historic setting and visitor experience.
