In support of Rio Tinto Kennecott’s Next Pushback Bingham Canyon Mine project, Logan Simpson developed and implemented an archaeological mitigation program for the Utah Consolidated Aerial Tramway site. The aerial tramway transported ore from the Highland Boy Mine and surrounding properties over the crest of the Oquirrh Mountains and down Pine Canyon and Baltimore Gulch to the International Smelter from 1910 through the 1940s.

The mitigation program included additional intensive survey and recording of all remaining structures and associated artifact scatters along the original tramway alignment. High resolution drone mapping of the remaining tramway alignment, completion of Level II Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) documentation for three intact structures, and the preparation of a historic context for the aerial tramway system in relation to the Utah Consolidated Mining Company and the Highland Boy Mine suitable for public distribution was also completed.
