Designing a destination: Planning for recreation, tourism, and community wellbeing

Lake Havasu City General Plan Update

Lake Havasu City is updating its General Plan to shape a future that builds on its identity as a premier recreation and tourism destination. The plan will guide decisions on land use, housing, mobility, and environmental stewardship, with a strong emphasis on enhancing quality of life for residents while supporting the City’s role as a regional hub for outdoor adventure and waterfront living. This planning effort is happening alongside our two complementary teaming initiatives: the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan, which will address long-range mobility needs across the region, and the Safe Routes to School Study, which focuses on improving walkability and safety for students. Together, these efforts provide a broader context for how Lake Havasu City can grow in a way that is connected, safe, and vibrant. The project is currently in the plan drafting phase with multiple community outreach events and activities completed. Completion of the plan is expected June 2026 and voter ratification in November 2026.
