Honoring history, fostering innovation to serve Downtown Chandler's evolving needs

Chandler Downtown Region Area Plan

The area plan was designed to address the unique needs and challenges of the 2.4 square mile area comprising the downtown region. The region was divided into districts which were examined individually and wholistically to ensure the distinctive neighborhoods and community members were represented in the goals and policies offered by the plan. Region specific design guidelines, a future land use map and updated land use categories as well as a robust implementation plan all underscored the ample community feedback received throughout the plan development process. By creating a community-built vision that guides the region’s next chapter, Chandler maximized the opportunity to decide the type and pattern of development and growth specific to the values and desires of the Downtown Region.

The Plan was unanimously approved by city council in October 2025 after a unanimous recommendation from the planning and zoning commission.
