Logan Simpson, an environmental planning, cultural resource management, planning, and landscape architecture design firm, has an immediate opening for a regular full-time Architectural Historian based out of our Tempe, Arizona corporate headquarters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting and assisting with historic preservation and other cultural resources fieldwork, including documentation of historic buildings, structures, sites, objects, and districts;
  • Conducting historical background research;
  • Preparing reports and other work products, such as historic contexts, architectural surveys, Historic Property Certification Application documentation, and National Register of Historic Places nominations.

Position Requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field or at least 5 years of equivalent professional work experience;
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting archival research, building and cultural landscape / trails inventories, and surveys of the built environment;
  • Strong familiarity with architectural terms and styles typical to the western United States;
  • Be able to work cooperatively in a team-oriented setting;
  • Must be able to travel and work out-of-town;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, History, or closely related field;
  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History; meeting both Architectural History and History qualifications standards strongly preferred;
  • Experience preparing Historic American Buildings Survey, Historic American Engineering Record, Historic American Landscape Survey, and National Historic Trails documentation;
  • Familiarity with Arizona / western U.S. history

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation ranges from $45,000 to $65,000 annually, depending upon experience.

    • HABS/HAER/HALS reports
    • Historic preservation master plans
    • Architectural surveys, neighborhood design guidelines, interpretive materials, oral histories, and public outreach
